In
2006, EKU's ITP Outreach, with funding from the Kentucky
Department of Education,
started working to help train 20 'lead' mentors in the state of
Kentucky. Our goal is to provide these
lead mentors with training and resources so they can serve
as mentors for K-12 interpreters, particularly for those K-12
interpreters who are in areas where there is a lack of qualified
mentors.
The
first workshop, held on the weekend of Feb 4, focused on many issues
including examining what is involved and expected from a mentor/mentee
relation.
In addition to the 'lead mentors', this workshop was also attended
by about 25 other participants. During this workshop, participants
divided into groups to come up with lists of characteristics
they though should apply to mentors and another list that should
apply to mentees. To see the lists the groups came up with, click

The second
workshop, to be help on
April
29,
will focus on
resources available to mentors and show different ways
these resources
can be best used. During this workshop we will also discuss
and develop a framework for a resource site that mentors and
mentees can use. In
order for participants to start thinking about different ways
the site can be organized and categories you would like to
see included, you can click here to
get an idea of the topics and organization that have been used
by others in our field. |
